Mumbai: Veteran Bollywood actor and former Member of Parliament Govinda has issued a comprehensive public legal notice warning media houses, digital platforms, social media influencers, and content creators against generating, publishing, or sharing false, fabricated, and defamatory content concerning his personal life and family. The legal warning explicitly bars the unauthorized production and dissemination of artificial intelligence (AI) deepfakes, manipulated audio clips, and synthetic media mimicking his likeness or voice, cautioning that violators could face civil lawsuits seeking up to ₹100 crore in damages alongside criminal prosecution.

Prohibition of Synthetic Media, Morphed Videos, and Deepfakes

According to the public advisory released by the actor's legal counsel, Govinda has emphasized that he has not authorized any individual or entity to deploy AI-driven voice cloning, face morphing, or generative synthetic tools to create unauthorized digital depictions of him or his family members. The notice cites statutory provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000, covering criminal defamation, invasion of personal privacy, cyber manipulation, and identity theft.

The notice states that non-compliance will trigger immediate legal recourse, including:

  • Substantial Civil Damages: Initiation of formal defamation suits claiming compensatory and punitive damages up to ₹100 crore.
  • Injunctions and Interim Relief: Moving competent courts to secure freezing orders against social media monetization channels, banking accounts, and assets linked to persistent digital infringers.
  • Criminal Proceedings: Filing criminal complaints against bad-faith creators for digital forgery, impersonation, and harassment under cyber laws.

Context: Marital Speculation and Divorce Petition Withdrawal

The defensive legal measure comes after intense public and online scrutiny regarding Govinda’s marriage to Ssunita (Sunita) Ahuja. Sunita had initially filed a divorce petition in December 2024 at the Bandra Family Court in Mumbai on grounds including cruelty and desertion. However, on August 19, 2026, Sunita formally withdrew the petition, ending the legal dispute.

Following the withdrawal, widespread speculative reports emerged across digital platforms involving alleged relationships and viral recordings. Govinda's long-time manager, Shashi Sinha, publicly addressed the matter, confirming the withdrawal of the matrimonial petition and stating that Govinda had maintained a dignified silence for nearly two years despite unverified public claims. Sinha clarified that the actor has no plans for remarriage and reiterated that the legal notice serves as a necessary shield to protect Govinda’s professional legacy and family privacy from unverified online speculation.
